Steps:
1. Download and install Virtualbox choosing defaults for all options.
2. Download and save Ubuntu iso file.
3. Start Virtualbox and add a new machine choosing Linux, Ubuntu 32 bit, memory and harddisk settings as required...we recomend 2G Ram and 20G H/D.

CounterSnipe on a Dedicated Hardware(pc or server):
Here is a list of supported servers but most pcs and servers will work fine
In Short: (If you are familiar with general Linux world and know Ubuntu)
- Build a Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS server (make sure to choose entire hard disk from disk choices)
- Email support AT countersnipe.com the eth0 mac address with your details
- Go to Starting CounterSnipe Install
In Detail: (You do not need to know Linux. After installing, the CounterSnipe GUI does the work)
- Download Ubuntu software from the links above, choosing 32 bit or 64 bit as appropriate. ( don’t worry if you don’t know linux…as we won’t be doing much linuxy stuff)
- Burn this ISO file on to a CD on any Windows machine( in case you are new to ‘burn’ its no different from copying, just that you choose burn…. http://www.deepburner.com/download/DeepBurner1.exe is free and does the job)
- Find a PC or a server (choose one depending upon your network load and number of hosts etc) with at least 2 network interfaces. (make sure you are happy to delete/lose all the contents on the hard disk)
- Stick the newly created CD in step 2 above, in this pc/server, switch it on and follow the instructions choosing “install ubuntu”. Make sure to physically connect to the internet and choose eth0 for networking when presented....generally the one that is highlighted is the one that it detects as connected...so, if the need be, make sure to change this to eth0
Note: If the network cards appear as em then choose em1 and follow changing em1 to eth0 after the installation of Ubuntu
- When it asks about what kind of partitioning, choose ‘entire disk’ (not LVM) AND when it asks you to select services from a list of 10 or so, select OPENSSH SERVER and leave all others unselected.
